5 Ways to Look Slimmer on Your Wedding Day

It’s an unfortunate fact of human biology that it’s a lot easier to gain weight than it is to lose it, especially in the run-up to a wedding. What’s worse is you can’t hide a bit of belly fat under a structured dress like European brides can – your belly is right on centre stage, practically framed by your bridal attire. However, if hitting the gym twice a day still isn’t getting the desired effect, there are a few tricks you can pull to look a little slimmer on the big day.

Wear a dark coloured blouse

A helpful little optical illusion, but one that’s proven extremely effective, is to pick a slightly darker shade of blouse than your lehenga. It’ll give your curves a bit more definition and helps your look a bit thinner and more toned. Ideally, you also want to opt for solid colours instead of prints. The intricate designs in prints will act like dazzle camouflage, obscuring your body shape. Solid colours will make you look slimmer and taller, accentuating all the important bits.

Pick your jewels with care

By skilfully selecting your jewellery for your Indian wedding in Phuket, you can decide which areas you want to accentuate and which you want to minimise, creating the illusion of slimness where it’s needed most. For example, if you’re looking a little heavy around the face, go for a minimalist matha patti without the huge round tikka. You can also pick rani haars or Ladas instead of chocker-style necklaces.

Wear heels

This one’s a bit of a trade-off between comfort and looks. Everyone knows that a pair of high heels will make you look taller and slimmer, but you’re going to be on your feet for a lot of your big day, so you need to make sure that you pick a pair that you can stand and walk in for a long time without turning an ankle in the process. Consider something with a block heel.

Show less skin

It’s a fairly obvious solution, but it’s certainly effective. While you might not be able to wear the form-hiding white dress of western weddings, you can at least cover up problem areas. If your midriff isn’t as flat as you’d like, you can alter the design of your blouse and maybe even include a bit of sheer fabric or skin-coloured netting to help conceal it.

Use lighter materials

The material your lehenga is made of can make a lot of difference to how slim you look at your Indian wedding in Phuket. If you opt for lighter, more flowy materials like chiffon, crepes and georgettes, you’ll find that you’re a lot more comfortable and look a lot thinner. By contrast, stiff materials like brocades and organza will have the opposite effect.
